Tuesday, November 29th, 2005

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. This is a GREAT use of GPS technology:

GPS tracking of sex offenders gains popularity

Tuesday, September 13th, 2005

Just another article fueling the increasing opinion that tracking sex offenders with GPS bracelets needs to be done.

My only issue with it is that it should be done, but it could give a false sense of security.

Certainly the authorities shouldn’t discontinue what they’re currently doing and completely rely on GPS tracking to monitor sex offenders.

More services allow GPS tracking of teens

Thursday, September 8th, 2005

Even more services are springing up that allow concerned (or nosey) parents to keep tabs on their kids, in an article via CNN.

When used in moderation, I believe these could be very beneficial to keep kids safe; especially when it comes to monitoring their driving speed.

But trying to keep a constant on your kid shouldn’t replace natural trust that should exist between parent and child. If kids can’t trust their own parents from violating their privacy, then how are they supposed to trust others when they become adults themselves.

The moral of the story: use technology in moderation. Don’t let GPS tracking devices replace REAL relationships based on honesty and trust.

Buses begin using GPS tracking

Monday, September 5th, 2005

A few school districts have begun using GPS to track school buses.

Just another way to keep safe tabs on children; as the buses exact speed and location is constantly monitored. In addition, ID cards the students carry are scanned apon entering or exiting the bus, which will provide another measure of student security.

In addition, the systems have built in cameras, alarms, and emergency notifcation.

Hopefully we’ll see school districts increase this trend across the country, for our children.
