Important Garmin 3010C information for new users

By Rebecca Blain

There is a lot of Garmin 3010C information that a new GPS user should be aware of prior to purchase. First, the device is designed for Marine use exclusively.

It does not contain street maps and land based information. Like the Garmin 240 Bluewater fishfinder, the 3010C contains Sonar and depth finding capabilities.

However, unlike the Garmin 240 Bluewater fishfinder, the 3010C has many more advanced features ranging from weather data to GPS tracking and plotting.

This makes this system highly advanced on a whole and perfect for boaters who do not like to remain near shore. The chart plotter, in addition to having instant access to good data, can chart the best course to a destination. This course takes into account water depths as well as other information that you input into the system while using it.

The Garmin 3010C is best comparable to the Garmin 2006 Color GPS. Both of these devices contain high levels of technology not found in normal GPS units. The primary difference between the 3010C and the 2006 is just how far the advanced levels of technology go.

Boasting a larger screen, more advanced features and better reception, the 3010C is the master of the two, although the more expensive by over $500 dollars. The screen on the 3010C has a higher resolution LCD screen. Both systems are water proof.

In either case, these systems are exceptional, especially for those who do a lot of boating. As these systems are complicated, it is highly recommended that you take your time and read the manual thoroughly prior to use of your Garmin device.
