Pocket Navman adapter for Pocket PCs

By Rebecca Blain

The Pocket Navman for Pocket PCs are the perfect way to harness the power of your Pocket PC for GPS usage without having to buy a totally independent GPS system.

The adapters, designed to fit around your Pocket PC, do not add much weight to the device, allowing you to take it wherever you go.

This allows you to make use of map data and destinations on the fly, whenever you need it. By utilizing the hard drive space on the Pocket PC, the adapter can access a wide range of maps, allowing you to take numerous trips without needing to update your maps or insert additional memory.

Before you purchase a Pocket Navman, there are a few things that you will want to consider.

First, you will want to decide whether or not you want to 'risk' your Pocket PC. Using these small computers as GPS units could, in theory, bring harm to the Pocket PC if you are not careful. Navman's dedicated GPS systems, such as the Navman 630, do not have moving parts like the Pocket PC. This difference can result in the dedicated units having a longer lifespan and being more suitable for rugged terrain.

However, if you plan on using your device in a car, the Pocket systems make great solutions to having a GPS device without buying a full fledged one. Before you make the investment, it is important that you evaluate the amount of use and how you plan on using the device. If you think that you will need the device quite often, and will need it for more than just car or pedestrian use in cities, you may want to consider a different device that will not cause harm to your Pocket PC.
